Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is a beast Meant for Gamers
Even though the Galaxy s24 Ultra is the latest Samsung flagship, I think the s23 Ultra is still a beast phone and this is the right time to buy it as a gamer. I managed to read in detail about the phone and all I can say is that the phone is built with mobile gamers in mind. This phone is a beast and all thanks to the higher-clocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for providing such crazy performance. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 features Adreno 740 GPU and based on 3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmarks (a benchmark that pushes the GPU to the max) it thrashed the Xclipse 920 GPU that is paired to the Exynos 2200 SoC found in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
A popular YouTuber that goes by the Moniker Coisa de Nerd shared a comparison video of the performance disparities between the Galaxy S22 Ultra(Exynos model) and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
In case you don’t know, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra uses two varieties of chipsets. The one with the Snapdragon is for North America, Korea, Australia, India, and South Africa while the one with the Exynos 2200 goes to Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Exynos was not a spectacular chipset due to its overheating issues and has been heavily criticized since its inception. So Samsung listened and opted for the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (the fastest Qualcomm chip) for the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
According to his tests, both the S23 and S23 Plus got an average of 20.80 framerate and respectively scored 3,811 and 3,799 points. Meanwhile, the S22 Plus, powered by the Exynos 2200 scored 1,689 points and only averaged 10.10 frames per second. You can see how terrible the Exynos chipset was.
He then went on to compare the latest Galaxy S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra (Exynos). The S22 Ultra (Exynos) scored 1,912 points with an average of 11.40 fps, while the S23 Ultra scored 3,873 points and averaged 23.20 fps. you can see the differences and how weak the Exycanos were right?
The Galaxy S23 as mentioned earlier features the latest and most powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with an Adreno 740 GPU. The Exynos 2200-powered Galaxy S22 series that was conducted in the test uses an Xclipse 920 GPU.
The 555MHz Xclipse 920 GPU is already clearly slower than the 680MHz Adreno 740 GPU. Even the frequencies are not the same. Besides The Galaxy S23 series used a specially ordered overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with a 719MHz GPU. The Exynos 2200 Galaxy S22 series was trashed in the test.
Based on these GPU benchmarks it is very obvious that the Galaxy S23 series is a beast that will appeal to every mobile gamer.
But be reminded that benchmarks may not necessarily reflect “Actual” performance. Until I lay my hands on the device before I can make my conclusions.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra specs
I am not going to lie but Samsung has really tried for dropping its very own chipset completely for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Samsung finally realized that Exynos needed to be improved first before including it on its flagships again. So the truth is that the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a massive attraction for most users who pay attention to performance.
Well-optimized CPUs are superior to those built for general use this is a known fact and this is why Samsung opted for that. Every techie guy who pays attention to mobile phone news would know that the Google Pixel 7 isn’t equipped with the fastest possible chip, but the Tensor G2 performs brilliantly because it is well-optimized.
Samsung claims the optimized Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor found in the S23 Ultra is 34% faster than the S22 Ultra. This chipset has 8 cores (1 primary + 4 middle + 3 smaller) The primary + middle cores play vital roles in highly demanding activities like playing high graphical Games.
The Adreno 780 GPU renders game graphics. Samsung also claimed that the S23 series’ Ray Tracing feature is improved and will deliver high details in games.
The factors that determine performance are very important and the S23 Ultra packs one of best performance so far. Now the next important aspect for every gamer is the display. The S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch AMOLED 2X screen with a resolution of 3088 x 1440. The screen has a 1Hz–120Hz variable refresh rate with a peak brightness of 1750nits. These display specs are spectacular! You can comfortably play your games outside under the bright sun with that brightness.
To be very clear, the Quad HD+ display at 3880 x 1440 resolution is unmatched!!
Great performance and spectacular display mean nothing without a strong and well-optimized battery. The battery powers everything. The S23 Ultra features a Powerful 5,000mAh battery and it is optimized for power saving.
Samsung claims that the S23 Ultra’s vapor chamber that distributes heat has been greatly improved and this will greatly help in extending the battery life through a superior cooling mechanism.
Thank you and have a great day ✌🏽
